Can you plaster over Artex?
Yes — a sound Artex ceiling can be skimmed over, and it is the cheapest way to lose the pattern. Test pre-2000 Artex for asbestos first, because disturbing a positive coating is dangerous and illegal to DIY.
- A bonding agent helps the new plaster key to the texture.
- Very deep patterns may shadow through; overboarding hides them completely.
- Never sand or scrape Artex before testing.
